Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC was a coupe in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class; it debuted from Mercedes-Benz in in 1981. There were two main iterations, and both were part of Mercedes-Benz Series 126 (designated C 126 E 50).

One of them came out in 1981 and ran until 1985. It had a V8 engine with a light-alloy block and mechanically controlled Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, and the engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Together, they achieved 231 horsepower. Features during this run ranged from a double-wishbone front suspension and power steering to front and rear disc brakes (with an antilock system standard from 1984 on) and steel wheels (with light-alloy wheels available).

The other run spanned the years between 1985 and 1991. This model had a mechanically and electronically controlled Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injector and an emission control system with a closed-loop, three-way catalyst as an option (it became standard in late 1986). The engine could produce 245 horsepower (223 horsepower with the catalyst); from late 1987 on, it became capable of 265 horsepower (252 horsepower with said catalyst).

The car was offered until mid-1993, when it became the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Coupe, a member of Mercedes-Benz Series 140 (designated C 140 E 50). If you're driving one these days, however, more than likely, it's from one of three model years: 1984, 1985, or 1993.
